HOTEL REVIEW: SOHO BEACH HOUSE, MIAMI

Soho Beach House Miami is my absolute top, number one place in the world. No exaggeration. It’s my own little heaven on earth.

So prepare yourselves for an unhealthy amount gushing as I tell you all about why…

Location

First things first, let’s talk about location. It’s a beyond-beautiful spot. Soho Beach House sits right on the ocean, at the very top of Miami’s South Beach and around 25 minutes’ drive from Miami International airport.

It’s an area that people used to say was too far away from the hubbub of South Beach. But as time has passed, South Beach has grown to meet it – as cities tend to do.

Nowadays it’s very easy to get from this part of South Beach to anywhere else in Miami. Take a stroll along the wooden beach boardwalk in either direction. Hire a bicycle. Or hop in an Uber. (I’d highly recommend using Uber to get around in Miami. It’s super cheap and reliable.)

Some places I’d recommend nearby… Quirky, homely 27 Restaurant Miami. Mexican restaurant, Bakan. And Byblos, for Eastern Mediterranean cuisine. All great dinner options if you can tear yourself away from the delights of Soho Beach House.

First Impressions

Soho Houses around the world are renowned for their signature shabby-chic style. This Beach House is a little different. Sure, you’ll find distressed wood, antique-y furniture and those sumptuous velvet armchairs.

But this place also takes a little inspo from the art deco roots of its building. Patterned, tiled floors and vintage lighting bring a touch of retro glitz to proceedings.

Head to reception and you’ll be met by a friendly, chit-chatty staff. And up in the room I was greeted by a welcome letter, a selection of fresh fruit and a bottle of rosé. Could be worse!

The Rooms

There are 49 rooms at Soho Beach House. Smaller Side and Bayside Rooms, as well as bigger Beachside Rooms, numbered One to Four.

Whether you go big or small, you get access to all of the facilities on offer. So you really don’t need to break the bank in order to get the full Soho House experience.

All rooms are beautifully designed, with eclectic furniture and colourful textiles. Bathrooms feature rainfall showers, standalone tubs and those signature Cowshed toiletries – all the lotions and potions you could possibly need.

Beachside One

The room I’ve stayed in a number of times now, is Beachside One – the largest room category available. It’s 1500 square feet, if that means anything to anyone. One thing for sure, it is grand. And it’s basically a stunning one-bedroom apartment.

It sits on its own floor, one floor down from the top floor. Which means no balconies above blocking the view. And what a view. You’re so high up that it feels like you could touch the clouds (if there happen to be any clouds in that beautiful blue Miami sky).

I love sitting out there in the morning, looking out at the ocean, and eating a tasty Soho House breakfast.

The huge Soho House bed is perfectly positioned so you can look out through the floor to ceiling windows even when you’re horizontal. And the room also boasts of a living area and a huge changing room.

Cocktail o’Clock

Soho Beach House does a minibar with style. You can find all manner of drinks in a beautiful vintage glass cabinet. But why not leave the experts to shake you up something really special?

Each day, a gentleman will come up to your room with a cocktail trolley. And he’ll mix you your favourite cocktail right in front of you. Life surely doesn’t get much more decadent than this.

More food and drink options…

A breakfast of eggs, avo and all the other usual suspects is served in the Cuban inspired Club Bar. Order the pancakes – they’re delicious!

For food and drink throughout the day there’s a tiki-style, open-air bar in the garden. And also Ocho, a rooftop tequila bar with a menu of margs, mezcal and Mexican foodie treats. The latter is a great option for a cocktail and a bite to eat when you’re sunning and swimming at the rooftop pool.

Courtyard restaurant, Cecconi’s, is open to club members, hotel guests and the general public. But if you want to embrace the world of the Miami jet set, head to the more exclusive club terrace after breakfast. It’s the perf place for people watching and celeb spotting.

Ordering room service? Get the truffle pizza. It’s an absolute favourite of mine and I never leave Soho Beach House without ordering it at least once.

Down at the beach…

Travel beyond Soho Beach House’s back fence, cross over the boardwalk, and you’re onto the hotel’s private stretch of beach. Which is as idyllic as you might expect.

Soft, white sand. Clear blue water. And none of the usual scrabbling for a sunbed. It’s Soho House and you can guarantee that every whim is going to be catered for.

Sun loungers, fringed parasols and fluffy beach towels are yours for the taking. There’s an attentive food and drink service. And your own personal ice cooler to keep that bottle of white wine crisp and cold.

More facilities… The list goes on…

At every Soho House hotel they seem to have thought of everything. And Soho Beach House is no exception.

There’s Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, even down on the beachfront. And a calendar of exclusive events. Be sure to ask at reception to find out what is happening during your stay.

There are two swimming pools – a 100 foot monster downstairs and a more petite version on the rooftop.

In need of a little pampering? A massage, facial, pedicure or manicure at the Cowshed Spa will see you right. And if a movie night sounds up your street, head to the screening snug – a cosy cinema space that you can reserve for a viewing of your very own favourite film.

Staying at Soho Beach House always feels like a total treat. If you want to switch off and experience true luxury, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

The Globetrotter Verdict

This place knocks it out of the park. 10/10.
