The Place

Los Aguachiles is my "secret" little place in Tulum. It’s not the kind of eatery you just stumble across. Every time I’m in Tulum, I’ll be sure head here at least once. Open from lunch to the early evening, this is the place for tacos.

The Neighbourhood

In Tulum town. And on the main road (route 307). But Los Aguachiles sits right on the outskirts – it feels like the very last building before you leave town. It’s around ten minutes’ walk from another great Mexican eatery, La Malquerida.

A Good Shout for…

Low-key, authentic, beyond-tasty lunchtime tacos. Or takeaway. I sometimes drive up here to pick up lunch when I’m chilling a day away on the beach.

The Best Bits

  • I always love a surprise. Looking at it from the outside, you’d be forgiven for thinking this gaff was some kind of bus station. But venture in, and tasty treats await.
  • The happy vibe. The guys who work here always seem to be in a good mood. And sometimes a mariachi band happens to march on through.
  • Los Aguachiles doesn’t do design. Instead, they put all their magic into the food. It’s probably the most authentic taco place I’ve ever slunk into. And that’s what it’s all about, right?
