restaurant made of corrugated metal in Amsterdam

The Place

IJver Amsterdam is a quirky restaurant bar, based ina warehouse and serving tasty Dutch-French cuisine. I actually came across itby mistake, taking the wrong ferry when travelling from the Sir Adam Hotelwhere I was staying.

This happy accident meant I discovered a completelynew (for me) part of the city. And I also got to sample the all-day dining anddrinking extravaganza that is IJver.

The Neighbourhood

IJver Amsterdam can be found in NDSM, part of NorthAmsterdam and a 15 minute ferry ride away from Amsterdam centre. Ferries arefree to use and make the journey every 15-20 minutes.

This historic ship wharf is full of semi-derelictwarehouses and young, creative businesses making the most of cheap rent. Thisarea is also home to big, one off music events and some amazing street art.

A Good Shout for…

Breakfast, lunch or dinner – this place serves food all day. Or just a few drinks with friends.

The Best Bits

  • The design. Taking industrial chic to a whole new level, IJver Amsterdam is a super cool warehouse space. Inside there are long communal tables and a mezzanine. Outside there are two terraces with lights strung up overhead.
  • Beer. IJver Amsterdam are proud to have over 30 beers on tap with ales also finding their way onto the menu in the form of delicious sauces and salad dressings. (And if beer isn’t your tipple there’s a great selection of wine and cocktails too.)
  • The ‘hood. The NDSM Wharf district was an amazing find. I loved wandering the streets, finding street art and other cool little food and drink venues. Now I know where it is, I'll definitely be heading back.
