The Place

Electric Cinema Portobello is one of London’s oldest purpose-built cinemas. It's been lovingly and trendily updated for the 21st century.

And whether you’re a London local or a visitor, you should visit this place at least once. Just beware! Once you’ve had the Electric Cinema experience, no other cinema will ever cut the mustard ever again.

A vintage building soaked in history. Luxurious seating. And the Soho House seal of approval (Soho House owns and runs the place). Ticket prices may be premium but you’re never in any doubt that you’re getting an experience to match.

The Neighbourhood

You’ll find Electric Cinema right in the middle of Portobello Road, just a couple of corners away from Ladbroke Grove station. And not too far from Notting Hill Gate.

If you’re visiting while Portobello Road Market is in full swing, the cinema is easy to miss. So keep looking up for the Electric Cinema logo.

Also nearby, if you’re planning on making a day of it, you’ll find Pizza East Portobello (a great pizza joint) and Lisboa Patisserie (an amazing Portuguese bakery). Not forgetting the famous antique shops and pretty facades along Portobello Road.

A Good Shout for…

An exceptionally luxuriant cinema experience.

The Best Bits

  • Being uber-comfortable. You’re treated to massive armchairs with footrests (containing – wait for it – cashmere blankets in case your tootsies get chilly). Cosy double sofas. Or a double bed if you prefer a fully horizontal film watching experience.
  • A great program of the better Hollywood big hitters and some art housey stuff too.
  • The cinema bar, which opens about 20 minutes before the film starts. Tank up on your favourite tipple and a range of gourmet sweets and savoury snacks before heading to your seat.
