The Place

Bringing a slice of Sicily to Central London, Circolo Popolare is the second London offering from the Big Momma Restaurant group. This place is big and bold, both in terms of its Italian flavours and interior design.

The Neighbourhood

The up-and-coming streets of Fitzrovia (or Noho as they like to call it). There’s a lot of development going on around here with tons of exciting restaurants to choose from. Flesh & Buns, Berners Tavern, Yalla Yalla – lots of my favourite eateries live around here.

Circolo Popolare sits underneath a shiny new complex. It’s around the corner from Tottenham Court Road and steps away from the Charlotte Street Hotel.

A Good Shout for…

A fun dinner with a bunch of friends. They have loads of large tables seating up to 12. This is a big, lively place so if you’re looking for a romantic date night it’s probs best to swerve this one for now.

You can book for large groups but anyone else may find themselves joining the queue.

The Best Bits

  • This place is playful. From the neon lit statue of Mary Magdalene on the way to the bathroom to the cheeky names they give to dishes on the menu.
  • The décor and design is unreal. I’d never seen anything like it. There are thousands of bottles lining the walls, there’s greenery hanging down from the ceiling and it’s all spectacularly lit (in the traditional sense of the word). You really don’t feel like you’re sitting in Central London.
  • The menu, which contains anything and everything you love from Italy. If you’re a pizza lover - like myself - you get treated to toppings like Gorgonzola and peach, nduja, burrata and almonds. And of course, there’s stuff from the grill, pasta, Italian wine... All mouth-wateringly delicious.
